First retrospective of Roger Melis (1940-2009) work. So much simplicity, reality and proximity in these sensitives pictures. Roger Miles was more interested in showing real life, inexpected, banal situations, without any stars or glitter, just catching the daily life poetry. His work can also be considered as archives, a testimony of East german daily life. Really nice exhibition.

In collaboration with the German Federal Cultural Foundation the Berlinale World Cinema Fund is marking its fifth birthday by showing what wonderful and unusual films have been made thanks to the support of the WCF. These films, which have been shown at international festivals and in cinemas in several countries, should now be screened for the Berlin public and cinema enthusiasts who are interested in very special films: strong, authentic stories from Latin America, Africa, the Near/Middle East and Central- and South East Asia as well as innovative visual ideas - artistically sophisticated and internationally successful at the same time. The WCF has invited ten outstanding films to Berlin and is delighted to be showing them at the Hackesche Höfe from 4–7 November 2009, as part of the WCF Spotlight "Infectious Films."

The exhibition Sonic Youth etc.: Sensational Fix focuses on the multidisciplinary activities of the groundbreaking experimental guitar band Sonic Youth since its formation in 1981. It features the band's collaborations with visual artists, filmmakers, designers and musicians, as well as a choice of other works selected by the band. Through the multidisciplinary output of Sonic Youth and related works by other artists in the exhibition, an alternative history of contemporary culture is being uncovered in which the division between 'high art' and 'low art' is being called into question, while issues are explored such as teenage rebellion, adolescent wanderlust, gender, fame, fashion, sexuality, and religion. In the exhibition, those different themes related to the band are presented in several chapters based on Sonic Youth song titles, which form satellites around a central space that focuses on Sonic Youth paraphernalia.

The Qompendium Trivial project is a tribute to the individuals who write the headlines for a newspaper published in England called “Evening standard” more than three times each and every single day. This platform including the typeface named Trivial is created and designed to bring hand written and hand made calligraphy into an entire new context. In its core this is all about spreading the word and dedicating trivia.
